We have no doubts that evolving society in a new, green direction is a massive undertaking. However, attempting to do so is crucial because inaction guarantees that we get nowhere.
Nowadays, ‘sustainability’ and ‘recycling’ are hot topics of discussion, but how many businesses act accordingly or are aware of how to achieve them? People tend to think big when it comes to sustainability: altering technology, work processes, economy and ecology, reducing waste and pollution and the plastic in our oceans. These are great things, but we’re still plagued by limitations in execution. Can we, as SME owners, change anything? The answer is, of course, yes.
Like a tree that grows from a tiny seed, a small-scale approach would help provide that initial momentum and eventually consolidate to effect change. The first step is to keep our minds open and look for opportunities to achieve this sustainability within the bounds of our capabilities. We can use and contribute our abilities, resources and know-how to innovatively substitute materials like plastic with eco-friendly and bio-degradable alternatives made from renewable raw materials.
